Technology
What is it?:

A software application that fosters companies to get complete performance records of their employees and thereby gives an overview of working hours and workload to enhance capacity planning.

Picture of the Technology:
When and where is it used?:

Wolf Theiss, the leading law firm in central and eastern Europe, uses the technology for performance and time registration. 350 lawyers over 12 locations have been using their mobiles for legal services since March 2009. The application was developed by the mobile provider a1 and their solution partners.

How does it work?:
There are three ways that make efficient time registration possible. Firstly a mobile phone with a small software application can be used to record data that are transferred via GPRS/UMTS to a web portal and forwarded to the time-recording system (e.g. SAP). The second way is to register the working times of staff through the NFC-mobile (Near Field Communication) of the foreman by using the personal number or NFC cards. Another possibility is a NFC-box where employees can register with their NFC cards.
Who profits and why?:

The recording of working times via mobile devices is a kind of process optimization. While the conventional way lead to incomplete and delayed recordings combined with a high degree of organizational efforts, the automatic mobile time registration can be done accurate and faultless.
Furthermore it supplies important data for insurance and financial issues.
Especially branches where employees mainly work away from office, this solution fosters planning of working capacities. It is therefore equivalent to a location-independent time stamp clock.

Conclusion
How could it support innovation activities?:
The technology for electronic time recording can foster innovation by having a basis for direct connections from employees to the main company´s IT-Infrastructure. Further development could be the implementation of functions that give direct connection between employees, who handle working issues between each other.
